Deputy Aguilar died as the result of a gunshot wound on June 30, 1985. Deputy Aguilar was returning to the Bexar County Jail from University Hospital where he had been assigned to guard a hospitalized prisoner. He had been notified to return to the jail, and was in the process of exiting Interstate 10 at Santa Rosa Street, when he was shot by an assailant from the passenger side of a passing automobile. Deputy Aguilar, 21, was dressed in his uniform and driving his personal vehicle. He was found with a gunshot wound to his back. He died several hours later after being taken to Brooks Army Medical Center. There were no witnesses to the crime, and the death of Deputy Aguilar has never been solved. It is unknown if weather there is a relationship between Deputy Aguilar’s guard assignment and the shooting. The case remains open. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Aguilar, and young son, Adrian Jason Aguilar.
